Program

Leander Carlier and Anna Alvizou are exploring in this concert the vast repertoire of lied and opera. The program includes well known arts songs and arias alongside less heard

composers and also some Flemish music. German lieder by composers like Brahms and Schumann, lieder by Flemish composers like Mortelmans together with arias of operas by

composers like Donizetti, Mozart Korngold etc. will be heard in the evening.

Leander and Anna are both successfully pursuing their carriers as young freelance musicians, each participating in various projects in the opera and art song field. Since 2021 they are also collaborating in concerts and competitions as a duo.

Anna Alvizou was born in Greece. She has obtained a Bachelor’s degree with the highest distinction from the Ionian University, from the class of Piano Performance of Professor Lambis Vassiliadis. She decided to emphasize further in Lied repertoire and playing with singers by pursuing a Master’s degree in Liedgestaltung. She continued her studies in Germany in the Musikhochschule Trossingen in the class of Lied Pianist Peter Nelson. She obtained two Master’s degrees, one in Piano Performance and one in Liedgestaltung, both with the highest distinction. Since 2014 she has been accompanying singers in concerts, lessons and masterclasses. After her Master studies she had a year of traineeship as a collaborative pianist in the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp. She has worked as a singers’ accompanist in the Musikhochschule Trossingen and in the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp, accompanying mainly in the classes of Andreas Reibenspies and Gary Jankowski. In April 2022 she was selected to participate in the International Lied Festival Zeist with her lied-duo partner, having masterclass with Elly Ameling, Robert Holl, Iain Burnside, and Roderick Williams. She has also participated in masterclasses by Lied pianists like Malcolm Martineau and Hans Eijsackers and will participate actively in a masterclass of Joseph Middleton. In November 2022 she participated in the Triomphe de l’art international music competition in the Lied-duo category and was awarded with the ‘’best lied pianist’’ special prize. She has performed lied concerts in Germany, Greece and Belgium. Future collaborations include lied recitals with singers like Colline Dutilleul and Katherine Dein.


Leander Carlier (°2000) received his musical education at the music academies of Aalst and Meise, the art high school of the Lemmens Institute (teachers: Katelijne Van Laethem, Elisabeth Hermans, Greetje Anthoni) and the Municipal Conservatory of Bruges (teacher: Sarah Peire). He is currently taking lessons at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp (teacher: Gary Jankowski). He actively attended masterclasses with renowned singers such as Zeger Vandersteene, Claren McFadden etc. He worked with accompanists such as Malcolm Martineau, Maciej Pikulski, Aäron Wajnberg etc. Since 2018, after a successful audition, Leander has been singing in both the Octopus Chamber Choir and the Octopus Symphonic Choir conducted by Bart Van Reyn, with concerts in Belgium and abroad. With this choir he gave concerts in the context of the “Festival van Vlaanderen”, “Klarafestival” etc. Since 2019 became a member of the B’Rock Choir, a new founded choir of the well-known baroque orchestra: B’Rock Orchestra. Since October 2020, after an audition, he was admitted to the training program of The Royal Theatre of De Munt/La Monnaie (MM Academy). Leander was appointed as MMSoloist in the training program of The Royal Theatre of De Munt/La Monnaie for the season 2022-2023. He sang different solo roles in operas as Henry VIII (C. Saint-Saëns) and Nos (D. Shostakovich). Since December 2021 he has also been appointed as a freelancer in the choir of Opera Ballet Vlaanderen.
